Kenya - Ol Tukai Lodge: Where Luxury Meets Wildlife Adventure

As soon as I stepped out of my vehicle and onto the grounds of Ol Tukai Lodge, I knew I was in for a treat. It is bigger than the camps I usually stay in but for a safari in Amboseli it would always be my first choice.

The lodge offers 80 beautifully decorated chalets (= twin rooms), with always four chalets forming little blocks, situated in a beautiful park with huge trees, so some nice bird watching is guaranteed.

After checking in, I was shown to my spacious and elegantly decorated chalet, complete with a private terrace that offered breath-taking views of the surrounding savannah onto Mount Kilimanjaro. The room was equipped with all the amenities one could want, including two comfortable beds, dressing area and bathroom with a big shower, and a nice sitting area. But be careful to always keep your doors closed – obnoxious little vervet monkeys are everywhere.

From almost everywhere you have great views of the Kilimanjaro (if it is not covered by clouds). Every morning when I opened the door of my chalet, the Kilimanjaro was the first thing I saw! I could even do some game watching directly from my own terrace, observing zebras, elephants, wildebeest, buffalo and more.

As a wildlife enthusiast and photographer, it was important to me that Ol Tukai Lodge was situated in the heart of Amboseli. It just has the best spot so that you can be one of the first ones out in the morning and afternoon to get early to sightings.

I loved the outdoor dining at lunch and dinner time. The food is buffet-style and just delicious, however, quite meat-heavy. But no problem, their cooking makes everybody happy. I am pescatarian and got every evening the yummiest fish, prepared just for me! And directly served at my table.

The staff were incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make everybody feel at home. It was evident that they took pride in their work and genuinely cared about their guests.

From the luxury accommodations to the incredible wildlife sightings, my stay at Ol Tukai truly was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation.
